The Deep Thinking Inclination Scale
Measures the employee's appetite for effortful thinking: do they enjoy a complex problem or avoid it?
20 items
6 minutes
4 dimensions
Intermediate and above
What it measures
Distinguishes those who "cannot" from those who "do not want to". The first needs training, the second a task worth their thinking — and the remedies are nothing alike.
How to read the result
Array
Before administering
Confirm that an honest answer is more use to the student than the "right" answer, and that a great many people do not enjoy effortful thinking, and that this is normal.
Its limits
Sensitive to socially desirable answering — the respondent knows "I enjoy thinking" is the praised answer. Read it with their behaviour in meetings, not on its own.
Its dimensions
- Enjoying ThinkingWhen high: Enjoys complex thinking and seeks it out.
- Mental EffortWhen high: Puts in mental effort and reviews their work.
- Asking for EvidenceWhen high: Asks for the evidence and checks the source.
- Openness to DisagreementWhen high: Listens to the one who disagrees and changes their mind in the face of evidence.
